TUXEDO DESK

Materials:  Black cherry, soft maple

The Tuxedo Desk is built to be used. It incorporates a full cabinet with solid edging, push-operated full-extension drawers, and a cruciform cherry base. This cabinet also serves to brace the desk frame. The desk top also incorporates storage, with two “tuxedo” drawers which double as shelves for speakers, books, or files. The pulls are hand-shaped from cherry.

The leg pairs combine acute angles with curves and are expressed at both ends, a nod to the Danish Modern forms of the 1950s and 60s. Look closely and you’ll spot a novelty: inlaid maple gussets, which both decorate and strengthen the joint.

The name and spirit of the design come from the contrast of these two beautiful domestic hardwoods, local to Pennyslvania: variegated, mellow cherry and pale, steady maple.
